According to medicinelearners, Flathead County, Montana is located in the northwestern part of the state and is home to a population of around 100,000 people. The county was created in 1893 from portions of Missoula, Sanders and Lincoln Counties. Early settlers of the county included trappers, miners and homesteaders who were drawn to the area for its abundance of natural resources such as timber and fur. The first permanent settlement in Flathead County was established in 1864 when a group of settlers known as the “Flathead Valley Pioneers” arrived from St. Louis, Missouri. The pioneers built a trading post at what is now Kalispell and began establishing farms in the area. In 1872, the federal government granted homesteads to settlers who agreed to remain on their land for at least five years and make improvements on it. In 1889, Flathead County became one of Montana’s original seven counties when it separated from Missoula County. During this time, agriculture began to take root as farmers planted wheat and oats across the valley floor while also raising cattle and sheep. Today, Flathead County is a popular tourist destination due to its proximity to Glacier National Park as well as its numerous lakes and rivers that are ideal for fishing and boating activities. The county is also home to several small towns that offer unique attractions such as antique shops, art galleries and historic sites that draw visitors from all over Montana each year. Flathead County, Montana is home to six public school districts that serve a total of 14,000 students. These districts are the Columbia Falls School District, Evergreen School District, Kalispell Public Schools, Lakeside School District, North Valley Schools and Whitefish Public Schools. The Columbia Falls School District is located in the northern part of Flathead County and consists of four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school with a total enrollment of around 2,400 students. The district offers a variety of academic programs for its students including Advanced Placement courses as well as career and technical education classes. The Evergreen School District serves the small town of Evergreen as well as several other communities in western Flathead County. The district consists of one elementary school, one middle school and one high school with a total enrollment of around 1,200 students. The district focuses on providing an excellent education for its students by offering a wide range of academic programs including Advanced Placement classes as well as career and technical education courses. Kalispell Public Schools serve the city of Kalispell which is located in the center of Flathead County. This district consists of five elementary schools, two middle schools and two high schools with a total enrollment of around 5,500 students. The district offers an array of academic programs for its students including Advanced Placement classes along with career and technical education courses. The Lakeside School District serves the small town of Lakeside which is situated on the south shoreline of Flathead Lake in western Montana. This district consists of two elementary schools and one high school with an enrollment totaling just under 500 students. The district provides its students with access to educational opportunities such as Advanced Placement classes along with career and technical education courses. North Valley Schools serve several rural communities in eastern Flathead County that are located northward from Columbia Falls towards Glacier National Park. This district consists of three elementary schools and one high school with an enrollment totaling nearly 1,400 students. North Valley Schools offer its student body access to advanced coursework such as AP classes along with career and technical education opportunities. Lastly, Whitefish Public Schools serve the city Whitefish which is located in northwestern Flathead County near Glacier National Park’s west entrance. This district consists three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school with a total enrollment around 3100 students. Whitefish Public Schools provide their student body with access to a variety of educational opportunities including Advanced Placement classes as well as career and technical education courses.
