According to medicinelearners, Cass County, Iowa is a rural county located in the south-central part of the state. It was established in 1851 when it was separated from Pottawattamie County. The county was named after General Lewis Cass, who served as governor of Michigan and Secretary of War under President Andrew Jackson. The area that would become Cass County was first inhabited by Native Americans, primarily the Sauk and Fox tribes. In the early 1800s, settlers began to move into the area and establish farms. The region quickly grew with new roads being built and towns such as Atlantic, Anita, Massena and Lewis developing. Agriculture has always been an important part of Cass County’s economy with corn, soybeans and hogs being major crops. The private school is St. Joseph Catholic Schools in Atlantic. The Atlantic Community School District serves the city of Atlantic and surrounding rural areas with two elementary schools (grades K-4), one middle school (grades 5-8) and one high school (grades 9-12). It offers a wide range of educational opportunities with a focus on STEM subjects as well as visual and performing arts courses. The district also offers a variety of extra curricular activities such as athletics teams and clubs for students to participate in. The Anita Community School District serves the city of Anita and surrounding rural areas with one elementary school (grades K-4), one middle school (grades 5-8) and one high school (grades 9-12). It provides a comprehensive educational program that includes core academic classes as well as physical education, music and art classes. The district also offers several extra curricular activities such as athletics teams and clubs for students to participate in. The Griswold Community School District serves the city of Griswold and surrounding rural areas with one elementary school (grades K-4), one middle school (grades 5-8) and one high school (grades 9-12).
