According to medicinelearners, Custer County, Colorado is located in the south-central part of the state and is home to a population of approximately 4,500 people. The county was established in 1877 and named after General George Armstrong Custer. The county was originally a part of Fremont County and encompassed much of the area that would later become Lake and Park counties. The first settlers to come to Custer County were miners who were looking for gold, silver and other precious metals in the area. They found small amounts of gold in several locations but it wasn’t until 1879 when major deposits of silver were discovered near Silver Cliff that mining operations really began to expand.
